A CRIME-busting dog went “walkies” seconds after catching an intruder.
But after a 12-hour search, she has now been reunited with her owner.
Security guard Dale Bilton was patrolling the recycling centre on Emerald Street, Hillhouse, due to an increased number of alarms and concerns over metal theft.
After catching a glimpse of a trespasser on site, he ran towards him with his dog Dotty.
As Dotty raced up alongside the intruder, Dale was able to grab him.
He said: “Dotty is a top-notch dog and enables me to perform my job to the best of my ability.
“She is there for safety purposes and is such a great help.
“As I got hold of the intruder, he asked me to take the dog away from him.
“I looked over and Dotty had already gone, she was not there.
“I detained the man and called the police who came and took the man away.
“That’s when I started looking for her. I work night shifts but spent all morning looking for her and contacted vets and other organisations such as Dogs Lost”.
Dotty is a black and tan, 13-month old Belgian shepherd Malinois and is a proven security dog, having caught another man some weeks earlier.
Dotty was finally found near the Huddersfield Broad Canal, which runs past the site.
Dale said: “I am so relieved. She was wet through when she was found. So she may face a few problems but hopefully she will be okay.”
A West Yorkshire police spokesman said that an intruder was removed from the Emerald Street site but not arrested.
