AN accounts manager who swindled more than £250,000 from a Huddersfield firm could be released from prison within days.

Lepton woman Emma Ellis, 40, was jailed for two years last October after she stole money from Moldgreen company Shaws Pickles, but a court heard yesterday that she could be released on a tag at the end of this week.

Ellis (pictured) appeared in custody at Bradford Crown Court for a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act and Judge Jonathan Rose confirmed that she had benefited from her criminal conduct to the tune of just over £253,000.

Judge Rose was told that Ellis’ main asset was her share of the equity in her family home and she faces a further hearing on August 20 to decide how much money she should repay under a confiscation order.

The court heard last year how Ellis had been paying money into her own bank account until she was caught in 2010..

Ellis had taken on by Shaws after doing work experience over 20 years ago.

Although she had no professional accountancy qualifications she worked her way up through the family-run business, taking responsibility for financial matters in 1995.

But in 2004 Ellis inflated invoices to suppliers and began paying regular sums of money into her own bank account.

Some of the stolen cash was used to pay for holidays including trips to Florida and Ibiza costing £2,500 each.

Ellis, who is married with a daughter, had no previous convictions and admitted a series of offences relating to money transfers by deception and fraud.
