A Crosland Moor man has appeared in court after twice flouting a ban on contacting his ex-partner.

Edward Quinn, of Cromarty Avenue, had at a previous hearing pleaded guilty to two breaches of his restraining order.

The indefinite order was made at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in July 2012.

It was made after Quinn was convicted of assaulting his ex Louise Bland.

The order banned Quinn from contacting Miss Bland or going near her Milnsbridge home.

However, the hearing on Thursday was told that despite the order the couple had remained in touch.

Late last year Miss Bland even allowed the 27-year-old to stay at her flat while he sorted himself out.

But following an argument in October she asked him to move out.

Then on October 30 she received a number of phone calls and text messages from him.

In one Quinn asked her to contact him.

He said: “Don’t go round saying things to people, making me out to be a b*****d’.”

Quinn was arrested and also charged with possession of cannabis after police found the drug during a search of his home address.

On November 4 he was arrested for breaching his restraining order again.

This time he attended at Miss Bland’s home in Elmfield Avenue.

Kathryn Stuckey, prosecuting, said: “Her neighbour said that the defendant had been round looking for her and banging on her door.

“(He) was trying to get her attention and threw stones at her window.”

Bob Carr, mitigating, said for a substantial period of the order being in place Quinn was allowed to stay at Miss Bland’s home.

He said: “The complainant appears to be hot and cold throughout despite having protection of the court.

“It’s only when the parties fall out that she seeks the shield of the order.”

District Judge Tim Capstick sentenced Quinn to a community order with 200 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay £60 victim surcharge and his cannabis will be destroyed.
