DETECTIVES investigating a shooting at the weekend are looking for the occupants of a car who fled after a crash.

The Renault Clio collided with a Renault Megane on Ridgeway in Dalton, minutes after shots had been fired on Walpole Road in Crosland Moor in the early hours of Sunday.

The damaged car was abandoned as driver and passengers ran off, shortly after 3am.

Two people who were in the Megane had to be taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment to minor injuries after the smash.

As reported yesterday, no-one was hurt but at least one property was damaged when several shots were fired on Walpole Road.

West Yorkshire Police have recovered the Clio, which matched the description of a vehicle seen leaving Walpole Road at the time of the shooting.

It is being examined for forensic evidence.

A spokesman said: “We were called at 3am to reports of a blue vehicle leaving the Walpole Road area, shortly after a number of shots had been fired.

“A collision then occurred on Ridgeway between a blue Renault Clio and a Renault Megane.

“The occupants of the Clio made away. The vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.

“Two people in the Megane were taken to HRI with minor injuries. There were no injuries as a result of the gunshots.”

The Crosland Moor area has been hit by a series of shootings in recent months.

Sunday’s incident on Walpole Road came less than three months after a window was smashed when shots were fired at a house on nearby Cromarty Avenue in the early hours of December 29.

That night the window of a property on Stuart Place in Bradley was also damaged.

A month earlier, on November 25, a masked man had fired shots at a 22-year-old man as he smoked a cigarette on Moorside Avenue.

Police are not linking Sunday’s shooting to the earlier incidents.

They are appealing for witnesses to the shooting or the collision. Anyone with information should call Huddersfield CID via 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
