RESIDENTS have been urged to demand a pedestrian crossing on a busy road.

Kirklees Council is consulting on plans to install a crossing at The Star on Manchester Road in Slaithwaite.

Colne Valley Lib Dem Clr Nicola Turner believes the crossing is needed. She said: “This section of Manchester Road is next to the busy intersection with Commercial Street which makes it very difficult to get across safely.

“There is an underpass but I can understand that people would prefer not to disappear into a dark tunnel.”

Clr Turner encouraged residents to take part in the public consultation on the crossing, which ends on November 5. She said: “I hope people come forward with any comments.”
