A TOP golf club is looking to extend its facilities, which will allow it to generate more money.

Crow Nest Park Golf in Brighouse wants permission to extend its club house and demolish the existing conservatory and replace it with a new extension.

The proposed improvements come four months after the club was taken over by Mick Stansfield.

At the time a not-for-profit company was formed by a group of existing Crow Nest Park Golf Club members.

The new company leases the use of the course and the club house facilities from Mr Stansfield.

But it had faced an uncertain future. A report, to be presented to Calderdale planning officers, says: “When [Mr Stansfield] purchased the golf club its immediate future was in doubt due to significant financial losses being incurred.

“Whilst membership of the club remains high, the revenues being generated by membership green fees was not and remains insufficient to meet costs and revenue requirements for the future sustainability of the club by improvement of the course and associated facilities.”

It’s hoped that the new extension would provide a function suite which would help the club generate extra income by providing a venue for weddings and conferences in addition to the golf.

Established in 1995, Crow Nest Park Golf course was created on 70 acres of grounds once owned by Sir Titus Salt, the industrialist and entrepreneur behind the mill in Saltaire.

Calderdale planners will make a decision by February 1.
