Vandals have caused havoc at a Calderdale golf club.

But the hooligans who struck at Crow Nest Park in Brighouse may have left a clue.

The words “Aaron Roberts LS9” were written in a bunker - just yards from the green which had been vandalised.

Now police are investigating the attack, which club officials believe will cost at least £1,000 to put right.

The vandals caused a serious amount of damage to Crow Nest Park’s par 3 5th hole.

Several holes have been gouged in the green and greenkeepers who arrived yesterday morning to  "top dress" the greens were shocked by the scale of the attack.

It is not known how many people were involved in damaging the previously much-praised green.

In the sand bunker which guards the front left of the green were inscribed the words  "AARON ROBERTS LS9".

There were also a large number of footprints.

Calderdale Police are carrying out inquiries.

Club manager Les Holmes said: “This is a sickening blow and is a crime against all of our members and visitors.

“We all at Crow Nest feel that we have the best greens in the area and there has been continued praise for the greens for a number of years.

“There is a financial cost that we have to bear, in order to firstly get the greens to a high standard and then an ongoing cost to maintain them.

“The cost of the repairs now needed on the damaged green is a cost that we really do not need.

“I hope that the police are able to trace the culprits. If anyone reading this article knows either the person named in the bunker or any details relating to the crime then please do not hesitate to contact the police or contact me at the club on 01484 401152”.
