HOMEMADE parsnip soup and delicate pumpkin carvings were the order of the day at Growing Newsome’s latest event.

The Autumn Gathering at Newsome Scout hut was designed to celebrate everything home grown. More than 100 people turned out to enjoy both pumpkin and parsnip soup and other locally grown produce.

The day, which was organised by Growing Newsome and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is one of many put on by the partnership – and they hope to run more events in the future.

Growing Newsome co-ordinator Diane Sims said: “It was a great day, lunch was homemade and the children thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin carving. We walked up to Stirley Farm where people were able to get involved in digging for their own vegetables. Seeds were provided so that people could go home and try and grown their own also.”
