BOWLERS will no longer be at the mercy of Huddersfield’s weather thanks to a new indoor green.

The facility, on Leeds Road, was given the go-ahead by Kirklees Council’s Cabinet.

Existing bowling greens will have coverings built over them so bowlers can play in all weathers.

The council’s Lib Dem group had championed the idea.

Their regeneration spokesman, Clr John Smithson, said: “Setting up an indoor facility will provide them with a greater opportunity to hone their skills whilst opening up Huddersfield as a possible venue for bowling tournaments throughout the year.”
