A TEENAGER who "fed" a live cat to his Staffordshire bull terrier was being sentenced today.

Callum Myers, 18, of Ibbotson Flats, Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to failing to protect a cat from injury at Huddersfield Magistrates' Court earlier this month.

CCTV footage taken at the back of an address in Clifton Road, in Marsh, Huddersfield, on March 15 this year showed Myers dangling the domestic cat above his dog, Gypsy.

He then stood back allowing the dog to savage the cat to death.

The cat's owners were able to identify their pet, Tigger, by its collar.

The court heard how a local resident tried to make the dog let go after hearing a loud banging outside his house.

Graeme Marsh picked up a piece of wood and tried to hit the dog to make it loosen its grip.

Myers then pulled the dog off the cat and threatened Mr Marsh before walking away.

Myers, who was granted unconditional bail, was told he could be facing a jail sentence as well as a life ban from keeping animals.

He will be sentenced at Huddersfield Magistrates' Court today.
