THE long arm of the law has stretched out to Cub Scouts across West Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Police launched a Police and Your Neighbourhood badge in Bradford this year in what was believed to be a first for the Cub Scout movement.

The scheme was designed in a bid to interest young people in crime prevention.

It proved so successful that Scout groups across the county are now being encouraged to become involved.

If the scheme's success continues it could be launched nationwide.

Details of the badge were given to Cub leaders from Central and West Yorkshire at a meeting at the Jubilee Centre on Bradley Wood campsite, near Brighouse.

"The successful launch of the Police and Your Neighbourhood badge with the Cub Scouts will hopefully enable the development of similar ideas with other organisations," said project official Maxine Wrigglesworth.

The six-week programme involves Cubs working in their individual packs with their leaders.

They have to undertake several tasks to achieve the new badge.
