WORKERS at a Huddersfield engineering firm prepared for the Chinese New Year by finding out more about the country’s culture.

Turnbridge-based Cummins Turbo Technologies has strong links with China through its sister factory in Wuxi, Jiangsu province.

It has its own Chinese affinity group – chaired by employee Dr Qiang Zhu – which works with members of the local Chinese community as well as employees from Wuxi visiting the St Andrew’s Road works.

Employees enjoyed sampling Chinese food, learning about the tradition of fortune cookies and listening to Chinese music.

They were also given demonstrations of Chinese calligraphy by Chen Yi, who chairs the Chinese student union at Huddersfield University.

She was invited to participate in the festivities as part of the firm’s partnership with the university to promote opportunities for developing young Chinese talent and Chinese culture across the wider community.
