CHILDREN are given a more flexible approach to learning since a new enhanced curriculum started at the school in September.

A new topic is focussed on each half-term and all areas of learning are related to that topic.

This half-term, children are learning about materials and there is a material and haberdashery shop in the role-playing area.

Art work, information and communications technology, history and outdoor play will relate to the theme and children are allowed to move around to various activities each afternoon all related to the theme.

Acting headteacher Kathy McCauley said: “Children study the topic on an afternoon and continue with more structured literacy and numeracy work during the morning sessions.

“They rotate around different areas of learning freely and this way of learning is proving very successful.”
