MOVE over Jamie Oliver.

Customers have been going cuckoo for the Tunnel End’s homemade pies.

So much so that the Waters Road pub was voted number one in the recent Marsden Cuckoo Cooking Challenge.

Landlady Bev Earnshaw, 49, was presented the winners’ plate by the new Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Julie Stewart-Turner on Saturday.

Mother-of-two Bev said:

“We make all our own pies and they’re served with either new potatoes or chips.

“The one that won – the Steak and Black Sheep Ale Pie – is a big seller.

“It’s really nice to be recognised by the public in this way.

“It’s good because this is a free house so my husband Gary and I own it.

“This means we can sell what food and ale we want – and when someone has had a long walk they often want wholesome food.”

The Tunnel End Inn won the challenge with 245 out of the 524 votes cast.

Seven cafes and pubs in Marsden sold their “Cuckoo Specials”.

Customers who bought a “Cuckoo Special” had the chance to enter a prize draw and each entry was counted as a vote for that venue.
