A PENSIONER had to be cut from his car after a smash yesterday.

The Barnsley man was turning from Dry Hill Lane, Denby Dale, into Barnsley Road at 4.10pm when his vehicles was in collision with a Honda Jazz.

The man's Smart car spun off the road and smashed into a phone box.

Barnsley Road was closed for almost two hours while firefighters cut the man out and the highway cleared.

The man was taken to Barnsley General Hospital, where he was treated for a broken rib.

The Honda driver, a 38-year-old woman, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary suffering from a chest injury.

Her husband and nine- year-old daughter were treated at the scene for whiplash injuries.
