A LABOUR MP today slammed town hall spending cuts in Calderdale.

MP for Calder Valley Chris McCafferty said the elderly and disabled were being targeted.

Ruling Tories on Calderdale Council want to put council tax bills up by 4.8% - an extra £42 on average.

Ms McCafferty said funds to Age Concern and Scope would be cut and some day centres could have to close. The action was causing distress and uncertainty to vulnerable people.

"They are doing this at a time when the Government has made it clear that they want to see more older people supported to live in the community, instead of being forced to go into residential care," she said.
