A BOOK detailing routes of popular cycle rides in Kirklees is to be launched.

The publication, I’d Rather Be Cycling, provides all the information and maps needed to enjoy 14 routes in the area.

They vary in length from eight to 54 miles, ranging from an easy ride from Honley to Holmfirth to an all-day ride from Dewsbury to Lotherton Hall, near Leeds.

Priced £2.99, it also includes information on where people can cycle in the countryside and advice on how to cycle responsibly. The foreword has been written by cyclist and television presenter Adam Hart-Davis.

The book has been produced by Huddersfield Cycle Touring Club and Kirklees Council. Cash from the authority’s CWI Energy and Water Conservation Fund financed the project.

The book will be launched at the start of a ride from Mirfield Railway Station on March 1 at 10am.

Cyclists in the Kirklees Easy Riders group will then be riding to Bowling Park in Bradford on the Spen Valley Greenways, returning to Mirfield for refreshments at the Huddersfield Road library at around 1.30pm.
