A CYCLIST smashed a car window to steal a shoulder bag.

The thief was riding a black mountain bike when he came across the new black Rav 4 on Huddersfield Road, Blake Hall in Mirfield, at 1pm on New Year's Eve.

He smashed the window, reached in and grabbed the brown leather bag containing a black leather purse.

The thief was seen in the area earlier in the day with an Alsatian dog.

He is white, aged 20 to 30, 5ft 8ins tall and skinny. He wore a black jacket, blue jeans and a black woollen hat.

Det Con Dave Kinghorn, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: "This goes to show once again that it takes just seconds to commit car crime. Never leave valuables on show in vehicles."
