ALMOST 300 cyclists have signed up for the 2008 Mayor’s charity bike ride.

The ride is now in its second year and has attracted riders from near and far.

But now registration has closed.

There will be lots of local cyclists, as well as riders from central Wales, London, Essex and Cumbria.

It means that more than £4,000 will be generated for the Mayor’s Charity, which this year is the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust.

The ride is next Sunday and will take in the rural districts of the Holme Valley and Denby Dale.

It will also tackle some of the famous Pennine climbs in Kirklees.

The event starts from the YMCA sports complex at Laund Hill, Salendine Nook.

Clr David Hall, Kirklees Cabinet’s member for highways, said: “I would like to acknowledge all the hard work that has gone into the event.’’
