PEOPLE have the chance to see an exciting sport in Kirklees this weekend.

A Cyclocross Spectacular, featuring cycle riders racing over rough terrain, will be held at Oakwell Hall Country Park in Birstall on Sunday.

Drighlington Bicycle Club is organising the day of racing around the country park as a way of introducing new people - competitors and spectators - to the popular sport.

Races start at 11am and will continue throughout the day.

They are organised in various age categories - under 12s, youth, juniors, seniors, veterans and women - and over varying times.

Competitors aim to complete as many circuits as possible in the time allowed.

The event will end with a presentation of prizes at around 3.30pm.

Competitors can enter in advance by contacting 01924 442946 or on the day.

Under 12s are free and every competitor will receive a prize.

There is an entry fee of £4 for youth entrants and £9 for all other categories.

David Todd, of the Drighlington Bicycle Club, said: "The aim is to get more people involved.

"It is great fun and they don't need any special equipment - just their bike and a helmet."
