A VISUALLY impaired Huddersfield girl was one out of a hundred children from North England to compete in an athletics event.

Dalton Junior school pupil Lily Walsh, eight, took part in a number of activities at the Boots Opticians Actionnaires Athletics Even run by Action for Blind People.

Partially sighted Lily is a member of Huddersfield Actionnaires, a club dedicated to supporting blind and partially sighted children in sporting activities.

She represented the club in the event.

She said: “It was a brilliant day, I’ve made friends with other children and found out that because they can’t see, many don't get a chance to take part in sport at all outside local Actionnaires clubs.

“Getting a chance to meet people and join in activities is what’s made it special.

The event, which took place on September 24, is the fifth year it has taken place.
