A MAN was caught by police urinating in a shop doorway, a court was told.

Drunken Andrew Holmes was spotted by officers relieving himself outside the takeaway at Aspley.

He ran away and was arrested.

Holmes, of Grosvenor Road in Dalton, admitted drunk and disorderly behaviour when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates.

The 25-year-old also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody at Huddersfield Police Station.

Magistrates heard that police had driven past Holmes during their patrol along Wakefield Road at 2.30am on December 6.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said: “They saw a male was urinating in a doorway of a takeaway premises.

“The officers confronted the male, who ran off up the road.

“They gave chase and caught him.”

The bench heard that Holmes was unsteady on his feet, had glazed eyes and smelt strongly of drink.

He slurred abuse at the officers and was arrested.

At the police station Holmes was released after agreeing to attend an alcohol awareness course in Huddersfield.

He was bailed by police but then arrested again after failing to show.

Holmes claimed he could not go to the course as he had to work.

Magistrates fined him £110 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
