A MAN has appeared in court accused of handling a Rolex watch stolen in a burglary.

Sholan James, of Harp Inge, Dalton, was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

Carole Lawford, prosecuting, said the watch was part of an £8,000 haul taken from a house in Dalton on July 8.

The owner asked local jewellers to keep an eye out for the distinctive gold watch, which has a black face.

He was contacted on July 9 by JPB Jewellery, which is based at Half Moon Street in Huddersfield town centre.

A member of staff said that two males were in the shop trying to get the watch valued and police were called.

James, 22, is alleged to have been one of the men.

However he denies the charge of handling stolen goods knowing them to be stolen.

Magistrates said that the case would eventually be dealt with by Leeds Crown Court.

James will next appear before magistrates on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody until this date.
