A DALTON man has appeared in court accused of threatening his ex-wife with a brick after she left him for another man.

Malcolm Gill, of Longfield Avenue, was before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday accused of breaching an Asbo.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said Gill went to his estranged wife Helen Gill’s address at Richmond Flats.

She had left him and started a new relationship.

On December 13 Gill, 44, stood outside her home shouting until she left the premises with her new boyfriend.

The prosecutor said Gill confronted her.

Mrs Fowler said: “The defendant swore and was abusive.

“He had a brick and metal chain in his hand.

“He held the brick above his head as if he was going to throw it towards her and continued to shout.”

Mrs Gill called police who arrested her ex on Northumberland Street.

Magistrates were told that Gill was charged with breaching his Asbo, which banned him from acting in a manner likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The order was imposed on November 18 as part of Gill’s sentence for shoplifting.

Michael Sisson-Pell, defending, said that his client had gone to the house to ask for his belongings that Mrs Gill had taken.

He said Gill admitted the confrontation but denied threatening his ex with the weapons.

Gill claimed his ex’s new lover threatened him with a piece of wood with nails in it.

Magistrates adjourned his case until February 8.

His bail conditions are that he does not contact the two prosecution witnesses.

He is also banned from going to Richmond Flats or within 100 metres of it.
