A DALTON couple have celebrated their golden wedding.

Malcolm and Muriel Hollyhead, of Brooklyn Avenue, met and married at the old Moldgreen United Reformed Church in 1953.

At the time, both lived in Dalton - Mr Hollyhead at Cross Green Road and Mrs Hollyhead at Wakefield Road.

They met in 1953 through youth events at the church.

Mr Hollyhead, 73, worked for oil company BP at their Greetland offices as a services manager for oil and gas boilers.

Mrs Hollyhead, 70, worked at Hopkinson's Valves in Huddersfield until giving up work to care for her mother.

The couple have one son, Graeme and a grand-daughter Megan.

Mr Hollyhead is a member of the Huddersfield Model Engineers and was treasurer for 20 years until this year.

He also visits Dalton Junior School as a reading assistant every Wednesday afternoon.

The couple both help with the Friday Day Centre at Moldgreen United Reformed Church.
