TALENTED toddler Damaar Facey is to have his first poem published and he’s only two!

Damaar, of Cow Heys in Dalton, is to have a poem about his favourite things published in an anthology of poetry by pre-school children.

The anthology is being produced in August by company My First Poem.

The company invited nurseries to submit poems by pre-school age children and chose the best to feature in the collection.

The children were allowed to have help writing the poems from nursery staff, but the ideas had to be all their own.

Damaar worked with staff at The Hunny Pot nursery at Rawthorpe to create his poem about his favourite things. He dedicated it to his dad, David.

Mum Natasha Simpson said: “We are really proud of him. David was really chuffed too; Damaar is a real dad’s boy.

“I know he didn’t physically write the poem himself, but he’s bright for his age and he can tell you what he does and doesn’t like and has a really good memory. He’s just fantastic.

“The staff at the nursery have been brilliant. They must have spent a lot of time with the children working on this.”

Damaar is following in the footsteps of big brother Damani, 12, who had a poem published while he was at junior school.

Natasha said: “Damani still loves writing poetry and he’s pleased his little brother is following him.”
