Dancers stepped into action to raise £1,560 for Cancer Research.

The 15th Annual Dance Show of Lightfoot School of Dancing saw pupils take part in three fundraising shows at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

Aged between 18 months and 22 years old, the dancers performed Latin and ballroom routines over three evenings for more than 800 relatives and friends.

Among the dances were the Cha Cha, the Jive, the Rumba, the Samba, plus Rock and Roll and cheerleading.

Principal Kathie Lightfoot said: “This annual event held by Lightfoot School of Dancing is the culmination of 12 months’ fun, but hard work, by the pupils where they learn between four and six dances to perform at the show.”

The dances choreographed by Kathie and her daughter Holly Lightfoot are to the International Dance Teachers Association standards. This enables the children to take dance exams early in the new year to International standards.

This year was particularly special as some of the students’ mothers raised money in aid of Cancer Research UK by performing a sponsored disco compilation dance at the show.

“They were understandably proud of their achievement in raising £1,560 for Cancer Research UK as their original target was to raise only £1,000,” Kathie added.
