DANCERS from Huddersfield New College are hitting the stage at the Yorkshire Youth Dance Regional Platform.

The event this weekend brings together eight of the finest youth dance groups from across Yorkshire.

They are competing for a place in the 2006 National Youth Dance Festival.

Performers are aged between 13 and 19 and study a wide range of dancing styles.

The college's programme leader for performing arts, Terry Rochester, said: "We have been working with Phoenix, a professional dance company.

"We had a one-month residency, where they would come and teach the group for two hours a week.

"We got through the auditions and are preparing to get through the next stage with a public showing tonight.

"The students have worked to an extremely high professional standard as well as showing great commitment."
