A DANGEROUS dog which attacked a woman while she was out walking must be caught, say police.

The 57-year-old woman suffered bite injuries to her right wrist when the pitbull terrier attacked.

She was taken to Calderdale Royal Infirmary in Halifax for treatment.

Police and dog wardens were today looking for the animal in West Vale.

It struck as the woman was out walking her dogs yesterday at 10.15am.

She was approaching her house in Long Heys Road when the dog suddenly appeared and attacked her.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are warning people not to approach the dog under any circumstances but to contact us instead."

The pitbull terrier is described as brown, tinged with black and quite stockily built. It has a studded collar but no tag.

It was last seen in the Little Bradley area, near the Jet Petrol Station at Stainland Road about quarter of an hour after the attack.
