A Huddersfield man is due in court today after being charged with the murder of Elland man Daniel Campbell.

The body of Mr Campbell, 38, was found at an address on Elizabeth Street on Friday evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Snow, from West Yorkshire Police's Protective Services (Crime), said: "45-year-old Robert Lyn from Huntingdon Avenue, Huddersfield has been charged with the murder of Daniel Campbell and is due to appear at Calderdale Magistrates Court in Halifax on Monday 21 July."

Neighbour Richard Sadler, 36, said: “I heard a lot of noise on Friday night but I just thought it was kids arguing. The road was closed off for some time and on Saturday night the police were searching for a weapon and looking in all the bins and combing the road for clues.”

Peter Thomas, landlord of Spring Gardens, Elland, said: “I knew Danny well. He used to drink in here occasionally and helped behind the bar when I needed holiday relief.

“He was very close to his aunt, Kim Campbell, who will be totally distraught about what has happened. He was a lovely lad, it’s an absolute tragedy.”

Emma Clarke, landlady of The Fleece, Elland, said he had been in the pub only days before the incident with his girlfriend.

She said: “He kept himself to himself. He was very polite and always asked how I was.”
