A four-day drinking binge ended in a violent assault with one man repeatedly punching another causing facial fractures as well as biting him on the ear, a court heard.

Darren Davison had gone to the flat of Stewart Jackson in Hightown, Liversedge, with a woman known to both of them on December 1.

From that Monday to the Thursday they were on what appeared to be a four-day drinking spree, Jonathan Sharp prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court.

In the early hours of Friday December 5 they went out for some money to buy more drink and then back at the flat were chatting casually when something was said by the woman which caused trouble between the men.

Davison told police later he saw red and reacted by punching Mr Jackson in the face and when he tried to defend himself he bit him on the ear.

Mr Sharp said the incident then ended as quickly as it had started. By then the woman had summoned help and when police arrived they found both men slumped inside the flat, Davison with a half bottle of vodka.

Mr Jackson was subsequently taken first to Dewsbury Hospital and then to Pinderfields where he had some sutures to the bite in his ear and a scan revealed he had a fractured eye socket and broken nose.

The court heard at the time Davison was on licence from a four and a half year prison sentence imposed in March 2011 for robbery.

Michael Devlin representing him said the violence was without pre-meditation. Davison had simply reacted to what was said and “completely lost control” having spent the previous days with Mr Jackson without any problem.

Davison, 41 of Bankfoot Place, Batley, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and was jailed for two years.
