HE MAY live in Meltham, but artist Darren Baker is making an international name for himself.

Darren, 31, has received an £18,000 commission to paint portraits of two racehorses belonging to a businessman in Dubai.

The client, a friend of the Dubai Royal family, wished to remain anonymous and commissioned Darren through his agent.

However, it is believed that he spotted the artist's work at the Equestrian Fine Art gallery in London.

Darren has just received photographs of the horses, so that he can produce the pictures - one measuring 40ins by 30ins and the other measuring 30ins by 22ins.

He said: "Usually I know the client's identity but in this case, he wished to remain anonymous.

"I am chuffed to bits to have received the commission.

"I am trying to make a name for myself abroad, especially in America, because there is a big market for what I do out there."

Darren will be hoping to impress across the pond when he heads to Kentucky in June to exhibit his work at a World Trade Day exhibition.

You can see Darren's work closer to home at the AC Gallery in Huddersfield, until April 28.
