IT’S 100 years since the Girl Guides were formed and one Huddersfield group have put their own local twist on celebrations.

Some 400 girls from the Dartmouth Division packed out Cathedral House for a centenary day spectacular.

The Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from Newsome, Netherton, Meltham and the Colne Valley stunned audiences with a play about the significant events of the past 100 years.

They represented scenes from the last 10 decades internationally, nationally and locally.

The girls featured the rise to eminence of David Brown Tractors, Huddersfield’s first ever trolley bus, Winston Churchill’s visit to the town and the day when The Beatles performed.

Guide leader Helen Roberts was the narrator for the performance.

Fellow guide leader Sarah Haigh, 23, said: “It’s been a lot of planning and a lot of hard work but the girls pulled it off and we all had a really good time.”

During the day, the girls took part in activities from the past and present including learning about the suffragette movement and learning some fun circus skills.
