SPECTACULAR firework displays lit up the night-time sky over Huddersfield over the weekend.

Thousands turned out to enjoy organised displays around the town on a clear, cold night.

West Yorkshire fire service took 515 calls over the course of 24 hours, only a small number for bonfire weekend.

Just 56 of these calls were in the Kirklees and Calderdale area, with fire crews attending only minor incidents.

The Rotary Club of Holmfirth Community Bonfire played host to an amazing evening to celebrate bonfire night at Sands Recreation Ground on Saturday.

The Community Bonfire is now in its 20th year, and has become firmly established as one of the biggest and best for miles around.

Families were able to enjoy a spectacular explosion of fireworks created by an experienced pyrotechnics company.

The event attracts a huge crowd each year and continues to thrive thanks to the efforts of the local Rotarians who cover the costs of around £1,500.

Each year the evening promises to be a fun-filled highlight of the calendar for youngsters and parents, and Saturday was no exception.

The lighting of the bonfire took place at around 6.30pm, before the firework display at around 7pm.

The bonfire also aims to raise about of £2,000 for Rotary charities.

Hundreds of families flocked to Crosland Moor for a fun packed evening of entertainment to celebrate bonfire night.

A huge charity bonfire and fireworks display was held on Saturday night at Crosland Moor, on land opposite the Sands House.

Once again, it was organised by members of Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table, and proved to be another successful and well attended bonfire.

The gates opened at 5.30pm and families turned up in their hundreds to see the bonfire being lit and watch the spectacular display of fireworks.

The Pendragon Bonfire event has never failed to impress and always guarantees to be a fantastic evening of entertainment and fun.

Families have been enjoying the event for many years and it has now become a vital part of the local calendar.

There was also a fairground in operation to keep everyone entertained throughout the evening.

Hundreds enjoyed a bonfire and firework display at Woodfield Park Sports Ground, with added attractions of a barbecue and bar.

The Spotted Cow Pub in Salendine Nook raised around £1,200 for a charity they have yet to decide on, with their bonfire and fireworks display.

Landlord Keith Morrison, said: “The place was just absolutely packed throughout the day and into the evening. We have been doing this for 14 years now and this year was by far the busiest bonfire we have had. It was a very successful evening and all the kids loved it.”
