A GRANDDAUGHTER says cash was stolen from her grandfather after he died in hospital.

Widower Geoffrey Dyson, 84, Milnsbridge, died at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) from a stroke on January 25 after 15 days in hospital.

But when Mr Dyson’s family came to collect his belongings they say two £10 notes, which had been in the grandfather-of-four’s wallet the day before his death, had vanished.

The family complained and say the hospital investigated but was unable to find a form with an inventory of Mr Dyson’s possessions.

Granddaughter Jenna Dyson, 24, Milnsbridge: “We think it was taken while he was in hospital. It’s definitely not been lost. He was in a side room. He wasn’t even in a ward.

“I think it’s disgusting that someone could do that. It makes me sick to think about it.

“He was very alert and knew exactly what was going on so someone must have taken it after he died.

“It doesn’t get much lower than that. To steal from a living person is bad enough but to steal from a dead person is horrible.”

The Examiner contacted Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. They failed to respond.

Last month Andrew Hinchliffe, of Dalton, complained to the Examiner claiming his mum’s jewellery had been stolen at HRI while his mum Jean, 81, lay dying in hospital.

Mr Hinchliffe told the Examiner his mother was wearing three necklaces and a watch when she arrived at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on December 20 last year.

Andrew, 53, said the jewellery had sentimental value and he was going to give it to his niece.

Pieces were worth £500-£600 and one of the pendants had been in the family for generations, he said..
