NON-SMOKING Huddersfield drinkers are facing massive health risks from other people's cigarettes.

An Examiner investigation to measure levels of carbon monoxide and cotinine - a chemical only present in the body after inhaling cigarette smoke - revealed non- smokers had the same levels as a medium to heavy smoker after a night out.

That is the equivalent of smoking more than 15 cigarettes a day.

Three volunteers agreed to be tested after a night in bars and a club in the town centre. All are non-smokers and nobody they live with smokes.

The results prove deadly chemicals such as hydrogen cyanide and carbon monoxide put non-smokers at risk.

Experts are demanding the Government move to ban smoking in all public places to protect non-smokers and bar workers from the effects of second-hand smoke.
