A Dalton man has been jailed for a total of six months after he stole three bottles of perfume from a shop while under a suspended sentence.

Dean Grundell was not seen taking the items on January 14, but the House of Fraser store at King Street received a phone call from a woman soon afterwards saying that the perfume was being sold in the nearby market.

Joanne Shepherd, prosecuting, told Leeds Crown Court police went to the market and found Grundell who admitted selling the perfume for £30.

He said he had a bailiff coming to his home to take furniture because he owed £300 for parking tickets.

At the time he was under a suspended sentence for dangerous driving following a police chase in Bradford last year.

Grundell 41, of Dalton Green Lane, admitted theft and breaching the suspended sentence.

Jailing him, recorder Sophie Drake said Grundell had told the probation service he thought he would be better off in prison.

“You are clearly somebody with a long standing drug problem,” he said.
