A MAN has been jailed after a head-on crash which killed a Huddersfield lecturer.

Michael Nurney, 33, has been jailed for three- and-a-half years after admitting causing the death of Dr Vincent Harris by dangerous driving.

Nurney, of Burton Road, Monk Bretton, near Barnsley, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court.

He was also banned from driving for five years.

Dr Harris, 69, of Notton, near Wakefield, died after the crash near his home.

His car was struck by a Porsche driven by Nurney on a country lane.

Dr Harris lectured part-time in chemistry and statistics at Huddersfield University. He was also a former ballroom dancing champion and taught hundreds of people to dance after setting up a class as a hobby.
