A COMMITTED music festival volunteer was presented with a prestigious award.

Gwynneth Kendall-Green (pictured) , of Holmfirth, was recognised for her hard work and long service to Holmfirth Music Festival.

Festival president Miss Kendall-Green, 79, was given the award by the British and International Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech for her 63 years of volunteering.

Miss Kendall-Green’s father, Leslie Kendall inaugurated the festival in 1944 and she has carried on his legacy.

She said: “It was a competitive festival for children in those days but now we’ve grown and grown until we’ve got older classes and choir classes.”
