A DECISION on controversial plans for 230 new homes in Mirfield has been deferred.

Councillors decided they must visit the site, off Woodend Road, Lower Hopton, before deciding its fate.

Kirklees-based Clough House has applied for permission to build the homes, along with some employment development, access and associated works.

The land is a floodplain and has been assessed by the Government's Environment Agency.

Worried residents have said they fear more homes on the site could lead to flooding of their homes and put extra pressure on already busy roads.

Members of Kirklees Council's planning sub-committee for the Heavy Woollen Area are to visit the site before making a final decision on the scheme.
