A MAN accused of sex offences against two young boys has had his trial delayed.

John Bottomley, 49, of Ridge Close, Primrose Hill, denies inciting the two boys, aged five and seven, to engage in sexual activity.

The alleged offences took place in the Huddersfield area between May 1 and August 19 last year.

Leeds Crown Court was told yesterday that a planned trial would have to be adjourned.

Bottomley was described as having "severe communication difficulties" and his legal team had not taken full instructions.

A speech therapist, who was to have helped Bottomley understand what was going on in court, was unavailable.

His Honour Judge Guy Kearl QC said the delay was unfortunate and set a new trial date for March 25.

Bottomley was remanded back into custody and was told to speak to his lawyers before being taken back to prison.
