PLANS to demolish the former mansion of a Huddersfield businessman to make way for new homes have been put on hold.

Councillors had been due yesterday to make a decision as to whether Delamere on Fixby Road in Fixby could be knocked down and have 14 homes built in its place.

But members of the planning sub-committee decided that they needed to visit the site before a decision on its future could be made.

The house was the home of textile tycoon Lord Kagan and his wife Margaret from the early 1960s. The peer died in 1995.
