PARENTS fighting to save a nursery school have the backing of two of their prospective MPs.

Last weekend Shahid Malik visited the Denby Dale Nursery School on Wakefield Road which is currently under review.

Mr Malik said he would do, “all in my power to ensure that the needs and hopes of the local community are not dashed.”

While the Green party candidate Adrian Cruden is also backing the parents’ campaign saying it was a pity the review would take five months to complete.

Parent Marla Cousin said: “This is a great little institution which is close-knit and delivers the kind of education I wish all parents were fortunate enough to access for their children.”

Kirklees Council has come up with four options for the future of the nursery – which includes its possible closure or privatisation.

The MPs are both fighting for the Dewsbury seat – which will include the Denby Dale area at the next general election.

Parents have started a petition to keep the nursery open for the good of the community and are calling for Denby Dale residents to back them to maintain future nursery provision.
