THE future of an active mineral mine is to be decided by councillors.

Bosses of Henperch Quarry near Denby Dale are seeking to extend their mining permit.

The quarry, which is about a mile north of the village, has permission to extract the minerals until the end of 2011.

But quarry bosses say they need another 10 years as 40% of the quarry is still to be worked.

They also say they need more time to fulfill their commitments to restore the old quarry back to open woodland.

Currently there is a shortfall of material and waste material would have to be imported to fill the hole in.

Councillors on the Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-Committee will consider the application for an extension at the meeting tomorrow.
