A DENBY DALE man has received a royal honour.

Mark Sanders, 57, chairman of Locala Community Partnerships, the community interest company that provides community health care services in Huddersfield, received his OBE at Buckingham Palace this week.

The award, announced as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours, was given in recognition of his services in local government. Mr Sanders worked for many years for Bury Council.

Mr Sanders was accompanied by his wife Bronwyn, son Tom and daughter Rebecca to the palace.

He said: “ This is an enormous honour for me and reflects the hard work and dedication given to providing council services by the staff of the borough.”

Alongside his responsibilities with Locala, Mr Sanders continues to support the Lancashire Fusilier Museum as a director and is vice-chairman of the Young People’s Learning Agency.
