PLANS to turn Huddersfield's former community farm into a Kirklees Council horticultural depot and training centre have suffered a setback.

Officials wanted to use the site at Old Fieldhouse Lane, off Leeds Road, Deighton, as a base for parks and garden staff.

Their hopes were dealt a blow when councillors refused to give planning permission and requested the plan be withdrawn.

A council planning meeting feared there could be traffic access problems.

The land has been unusued since the farm shut in 2001, when it hit cash trouble.

It had been set up in 1986 to bring a taste of the countryside to the town.
