RALLY driver Paul Round has moved up the rankings in one of his sport's toughest challenges.

The 49-year-old from Lower Cumberworth with his co-driver Martin Coulson are in 126th place in the Dakar Rally.

The pair moved up 35 places after successful fifth and sixth stages in Morocco and Mauretania.

A 'moonscape' awaited the competitors on a very winding route at the start of a special stage through Morocco's Atlas Mountains, before a smoother portion with some fords towards the end.

Round and Coulson are in their Desert Warrior car, which features a three-litre BMW engine and cost more than £50,000 to put together.

They are 24 hours behind the leading car, driven by Carlos Sainz, of Spain, and co-driver, Michel Perrin, of France.

Round is in the rally for the ninth time and his son Mark is leading a support team.
