An area of Lower Hopton was cordoned off by police this morning after a man was taken to hospital last night.

Detectives are now trying to establish circumstances surrounding the incident which happened at 7.40pm.

Police and paramedics were called after a 32-year-old man was found on a footpath along Woodend Road.

Police decided to assist the man to hospital and he is receiving treatment.

Det Insp Steph Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said: “We were called to an adult male at 7.40pm last night.

“He was taken to hospital and we are trying to establish exact circumstances.

“A small area of footpath from the playing fields into the footpath is cordoned off.

“The area is popular with dog walkers and is overlooking the railway.”
