A 32-year-old man remains seriously ill in hospital after he was found collapsed in Lower Hopton, Mirfield.

Detectives are investigating after the man was found on a footpath on Woodend Road by two passers-by at 7.40pm on Monday.

But due to the man’s condition police are still unable to determine how he came to be injured.

The victim is said to be drifting in and out of consciousness and has not yet been able to talk to officers,who are trying to exactly establish what has happened to him.

Officers were tasked to search the area where the man was discovered and a police cordon was put in place close to Hopton Primary School to preserve the scene.

Det Insp Steph Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said: “We were called investigate after an adult male was found injured at 7.40pm on Monday night.

“He was taken to hospital and we are trying to establish the exact circumstances.

“A small area of footpath from the playing fields into the pavement is cordoned off.

“The area is popular with dog walkers and is overlooking the railway lines.”
