FREE boat trips will be available at Dewsbury Canal Festival.

The traditional event aims to celebrate the area’s heritage and encourage the use of the inland waterways network.

Along with other activities including a fairground and a climbing wall, Mirfield-based charity the Safe Anchor Trust will be running free boat trips along the Dewsbury part of the canal.

The annual boat pull will also take place – with the winning team pulling a canal boat over a distance in the fastest time.

Craft stalls and various canal associations will surround the festival.

The free event takes place on Sunday, July 31, at Savile Town Wharf, Mill Street East, Dewsbury from 10am to 4pm.

The old canal wharf buildings which house The Leggers Inn and the Old Stables coffee shop are both open during the festival for refreshments.

Stalls are still available for the event although pitches are limited.
